Charles LaRue's "Light & Shadows Forming Structure"

Charles LaRue’s ‘Light & Shadow forming Structure’ on-display at LACA May 6-28
The Ludington Area Center for the Arts (LACA) will host a trio of exhibits throughout the month of May in the art center’s three exhibition spaces.
Grand Rapids artists Charles LaRue’s ‘Light & Shadow forming Structure’ will be displayed in LACA’s main gallery May 6-28; with a public Artist reception taking place Friday, May 6 from 5-8 p.m.
LaRue draws inspiration for this artwork from the rich visual bounty of the Great Lakes State. He has an abiding love for visual perception science and merges this with an intuitive response to light and shadow play, that form eye- catching shapes.
He employs alkyds, which are fast drying oil paints, on both panel and canvas. He quickly establishes a loose underpainting that he enhances through various layers of juxtapositioned patches of pigment.
After graduating from the Kendall College of Art & Design in Grand Rapids, he did a stint in the realm of commercial art before turning to Fine Art painting, which continues to be his passion.
LaRue has taught through demonstrations, contract art teaching, mentoring, workshops, and slideshow presentations.
The Grand Rapids artist has won numerous awards and has work in public, private and corporate collections.
Additional exhibits on-display at LACA throughout the month of May includes Marion Riedl’s ‘Exploration and Experimentation’ in the performance hall lobby gallery and the WSESD’s ‘Creative Stars’ exhibit in the Unframed Gallery.
LACA is located at 107 S. Harrison St., Ludington 49431. Contact 231-845-2787 or visit for more information.
